Franz Kafka

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Total Price:

Franz Kafka - the Jewish writer of fantastic, bizarre, existential novels which are both deeply depressing and yet almost comical in their absurdity - was born in Prague.

We visit his birthplace and several of the places where he lived, most of them situated close to The Old Town Square.

We will dive deeper into his novels The Trial, The Castle and The Metamorphosis, taking a playful journey into Kafka’s genius and brave, yet anxious mind.

We can sit in his favourite cafés like Café Louvre, Café Imperial and Café Arco. And we will see the places where he studied and formed friendships with Max Brod and Ernst Polak.

At the same time we should not forget other prominent minds who influenced his life: the gay Jewish mystic Jiří Mordechai Langer, one of his closest female friends Milena Jesenská, and the whole circle of Jewish German-speaking intellectuals meeting in the ‘Saloon Louvre’ including Albert Einstein.

We will visit the building of the Workers' Accident Insurance Company where Kafka worked most of his life. Today, it is a hotel displaying his bust, and his office is now a hotel room, no. 214.

The tour would not be complete without seeing the mechanical sculpture of Kafka’s head by David Cerny, which has become one of the top attractions of Prague.
